Salam! Greetings, loved ones. “Salam” is a term from Amharic, the national language of Ethiopia, that has a variety of different meanings, including: “Hello”, “Goodbye”, and most literally, “Peace be with you”. With that said, I welcome you to my tumblog! Thank you for taking the time to visit.
This is where you can find anything and everything concerning my thoughts on being a disciple, an artist, a musician, a friend, a son, a proud “father” (of a kitten and a puppy), and a Jesus Freak! This blog is simply just a record of a former vagabond’s journey to discover his true purpose as a spiritual leader in all his friendships and relationships, and most importantly, as a man of God.
This blog exists so you can be up-to-date on the events in my hectic life. I thank you for taking the time to swing by and check up on me. It is my prayer that in some way, shape, or form, you may be encouraged and blessed by the words you will see and read in my journal posts, what you will see in my pictures, and how you see me living life in general. I pray that this blog can utilize its potential to serve as a ministry through which I, as a student minister and a worship minister, can teach, as well as be taught. After all, that is what it’s all about: being a lifelong learner.

Lū’au Kalamakū. Kickin’ it like an authentic Hawaiian. In celebration of our honeymoon, Tabitha and I were called on stage to dance a “lover’s dance” in front of hundreds of people; partake in an Imu Ceremony (unveiling of the boar we’re about to eat); eat the BEST pork we done ever did have; and watch an amazing show fully loaded with singing, dancing, and lots of fire! I also made a friend whose name is Mailé and profession is “bone carving.” I absolutely loved talking with him and listening to his stories about his jewelry and other carvings (all made either from cow bones, whale bones, or wooly mammoth tusk) and looking through his pictures of his travels. And just for listening, he gave me one of his latest pieces: a makau (fishhook) necklace carved from the mammoth tusk (his most expensive piece!) that he acquired while in Alaska. For FREE! He said the makau stands for good luck, prosperity, and strength. And the fact that it is made from the only mammoth tusk that he said he’d ever buy makes it that much cooler! He thanked me for giving him my time and told me to consider it a wedding gift! (He doesn’t usually get customers that care about the stories; they just want the goods and then turn away after finding out the pieces are all crazy expensive. Honestly, I was completely turned off by the prices too, but what made all the difference was that I still wanted to hear the stories. I didn’t tell him that though.) Anyways, how cool is that?!? I’m just so humbled by his sweet gesture. One moment I will never forget. That is for sure. ‘Twas an amazing day and could not think of any better way to bring our honeymoon to a close.
